The Diary of a Not-so-Wimpy King

King Solomon, the wisest man to ever live, made this comment "All streams flow into the sea, yet the sea is never full" (Ecc 1:7). He was one man whose bank account would make Bill Gates, Donald Trump, Mark Zuckerberg, and Steve Jobs look like street peddlers. His wisdom far surpassed our world's greatest minds. With money flowing, countless employees, women of all races, fame, and the most powerful position on earth, in his time, he confesses in his biography (in the book of Ecclesiastes) that "it was all meaningless and a chase after the wind".

He devoted his entire life to obtaining wisdom only to find that the fool and the wise both die the same. Soloman states "the fate of the fool will overtake me also, what then do i gain by being wise" (Ecc 2:14).

Gaining riches... meaningless.. it only meant... that all your hard labor... was passed on to an undeserving fool.. About his wisdom he states "with great wisdom, comes much sorrow; the more knowledge, the more grief" Ecc 1:18. How can a man who seemingly has it all look at life and all of its adventures as meaningless. What hope does it give us who live pay check to pay check, have aquired a mass amount of debt, who are married to our jobs to raise a family and support our meaningless "habits"?

"What is twisted cannot be straightened, what is lacking cannot be counted" Ecc 1:15. Solomon found that in the end, you cant fudge the books and we cant fix the broken. If we put all our efforts into trying to fix, we will fail.

Solomon determined that men like animals even after all their work and accomplishments meet the same fate in the end... "all come from dust, and to dust all return" (Ecc 3:20). The only thing man can do, since his fate it to work, is to enjoy the work that he does. If one does not, than all he will find is misery.

This outlook on life is not preached alot from the pulpit. It is not socially appreciated as it is a negative (emo-like) view on life. One struggling with depression would find this biography devastating. And yet it bleeds through the pages like a like a damp glass. It stains the hearts of the readers with the reality of life. Guru's quotes of spiritual awakening and Joel Osteen's positive limmericks are hushed by the deafening sounds of Solomon's truthful prose. It is all truly meaningless!

You can pack out stadiums with words of forgiveness, yet if one never forgives himself, he always carries his chains... You can publish positive quotes in calendars but if the words are not adhered, they are mere words... you can promise "change", but actions are deafening... You can make peace, but if ur enemy harbors hate, you will never change them... This is the only truth...

We can sit in church pews and secretly burn... We can give to the poor, but choke with greed... We can help a friend, but destroy the heart of an enemy... We worry so much about the sins of others and yet we refuse to break down our hearts and complete an inventory on all our parts... we are broken and barely running... yet we find something new to patch our stains... this too becomes meaningless and we run to the darkness searching for light... and are swallowed up by the sea of discontent...

in our last moments...we realize.. that our facebook status's, posed pictures, our bank statement, our plans for the weekend, the possessions that collect dust around the house.... were really all meaningless... the one and only thing that matters... in the end... is our true intent... our purpose... our legacy...

May we all work as hard on humility as we do on status.....

Failure is a Gift

I sat in the room, nervous. I had sensed this moment coming all week. Though I felt a small comfort and peace, deep inside, I was terrified. I was bracing for the letdown—far from my first. I made small talk with someone twenty years my junior, knowing that soon, he would ask me to step down. That reality was hard to face. My mind drifted back to my first year as a deputy. I had called my father repeatedly, distressed over my fifth write-up. Each time, he told me to thank them for the discipline, not to quit, and to keep my head up. But I was overcome with sorrow. I felt like a failure. Maybe I could earn straight A’s, but I had no common sense. I feared I would never catch on. I was beginning to give up. Still, my dad insisted I keep going. In my first week alone, I had discharged my weapon—firing over sixteen rounds at a bull on Super Bowl Sunday. Not long after, I found myself in a full-blown foot pursuit of an escapee, my face, mostly pride battered from the struggle. My track...

My Weapon is a Melody

Every day can be a battle. A battle for our hearts, a battle for our minds, a battle to discourage, a battle to get out of bed, a battle to be content in whatever state we are in, a battle to bless God even in the darkest times. Satan seeks to crush and destroy us. When we are so focused on our own pain and battles, we are less useful. Think of a nice shiny car, but with a broken hose. This small hose can cause the entire car to be out of commission. This too is how Satan works in our life. He may sit back and watch us break with the smallest hose. That is all he needs to put us out of service. Many of us have been out of service for quite some time. This is because we have so focused on goals or things that may be outside our purpose. How do we fight battles in our life and overcome them? What should our only purpose be? Praise and worshiping God. That is it. God is constantly seeking out people who just want to worship Him. We constantly ask for blessings in our life, but how many ...

Hurricane Milton: The Anxiety Chronicles

October 8th is National Face Your Fears Day, and many Floridians are confronting that reality as Hurricane Milton approaches, less than 24 hours away. While the news is filled with alarming phrases like "explosive Category 5 hurricane," it only amplifies the anxiety of millions who already struggle with fear. Yet, in the midst of this, we must remember who is in control of the storm. "You rule over the surging sea; when its waves mount up, you still them." Psalm 89:9 "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you." Isaiah 43:2 "The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him." Nahum 1:7 The prophet Haggai had a word for the Israelites when they were focused on beautifying their homes and lives. They had the best decor, the latest tech, and endless feasts, but Haggai called them to take a hard look at their priorities  He said, “You’ve ...
