Finding Peace

Riots in London, Dow lowest today since 2008, international hackers attack US banks, governments, and Playstations...(what??) the world is angry... and peace seems unreachable... the prophet Isaiah said it best in chapter 57 stating "There is no peace says my God for the wicked". Isaiah claimed that peace could not be found because of the false hope in foreign gods or "wooden idols" that even the wind had no problem.. blowing over...

We may not bow down to a wooden replica of a cow, but what does occupy 90% of our time and energy? Is it a computer, a phone, a TV, a sport, a job? What have we replaced in our life that cuts out God? Our hearts are naturally wicked... our thoughts are bombarded with jealousy, envy, anger, revenge, unfairness... How can we have peace in our lives when we focus on all these heavy burdens...

We shake our fists up to the sky and curse when life is unfair... Then tragedy strikes and we get on our knees and pray to a God we barely talk to..or think of... like a runaway returning home for a paycheck.. we check in.. demand our share.. then leave just as quickly.. No calls.. no texts.. silence...

Our lives are empty cut-out paper dolls... We let strangers tell us what to wear.. we let social media dominate our little bit of free time.. we search frantically for activities to keep us busy.. and find little satisfaction in just being... we pass beautiful lakes, blue skies, amazing clouds, mountains, sunsets... every day... we find no amazement... we rush through life... only to find.. that there's a Monday.. following every Sunday.. an alarm clock.. that ruins every night of sleep.. and that we are completely fruitless in our life... because we never take the time.. to connect... with the Vine...

Our peace will come... when we finally stop just being... and start taking what God has given us.. and being a blessing to those that connect with us every day.. it could be our kids... our co-workers... our friends.. our family... we are so disconnected... we know everything going on in the world (Twitter blurbs)... everything going on with our friends (thank you facebook).. but absolutely no idea whats going on with our hearts....

SLOW DOWN! Life is passing us by!
