An Out of Control Life...

Today, some of you face obstacles that seem unsurmountable. Just this week, I have friends that have dealt with the hospitalization of a loved one, a marriage fall apart, an empty bank account, foreclosure, loss of a job, dysfunctional family members, change of a job, loneliness, and hopelessness. So many things around us are so uncontrollable. It is so amazing how one week can seem to change everything and everything is so broken. God came to transform the broken.

We do not choose our uniqueness or flaws. We do not choose our genes or chemistry. We do not choose our circumstances. None of these things can we control. We can, however, choose our choices or how we respond to our present circumstances. We can also choose fear which is False Evidence Appearing Real. Fear is the result of not feeling connected. This choice we will pay dearly for. This path leads to depression and anxiety.

We also can choose to walk into a room or a party and instead of worrying what everyone in the room thinks of us, to instead look for others struggling like we are and encourage them. This completely takes the focus off of us and sums up what the Bible tells us to do and that is LOVE. We don't love ourselves, how then can we love others? We need to get connected. We are so disconnected from people. We do not want to be interrupted by others and their problems, that connection is impossible for us. Relationships impact your identity. If your in love with God, you will be in love with others. There is no fear in love. The Bible says "Let love be your highest goal".

Instead of loving others, we are too busy sabotaging ourselves. Some of us have a grand canyon of doubt and insecurity. We have habitual thoughts of negative self-esteem. Remember, you do not have to believe everything you tell yourself. Feelings are not facts! In Phillipians 4:8, Paul says "keep your thoughts fixed on what is pure, noble, true, and right. We need to choose to get healthy. If you improve the controllable in your life, it will reduce the impact of the uncontrollable. For instance, one way to get rid of fear is to move against it. Do the thing you fear the most. This is so empowering.

The world will tell you to focus on your flaws and your shame. God tells you to change the way you think. Tell yourself "I am unique" and focus on healing. Surround yourself with pictures and quotes that encourage you. Throw the trashy books and magazines away that keep your mind focused on yourself. If you want to create a positive identity, you have to get rid of the rut in your mind and replace it putting into action God's plan for your life. Some of you are missing out. Your living life the way the world tells you that you should. Life is about so much more. There are millions of blueprints and plans that lay unused because people refuse to step outside their comfort zones and live out the life God designed for them. Those plans are unique to each individual. Don't miss out on what God planned for your life. You only get ONE shot.

Failure is a Gift

I sat in the room, nervous. I had sensed this moment coming all week. Though I felt a small comfort and peace, deep inside, I was terrified. I was bracing for the letdown—far from my first. I made small talk with someone twenty years my junior, knowing that soon, he would ask me to step down. That reality was hard to face. My mind drifted back to my first year as a deputy. I had called my father repeatedly, distressed over my fifth write-up. Each time, he told me to thank them for the discipline, not to quit, and to keep my head up. But I was overcome with sorrow. I felt like a failure. Maybe I could earn straight A’s, but I had no common sense. I feared I would never catch on. I was beginning to give up. Still, my dad insisted I keep going. In my first week alone, I had discharged my weapon—firing over sixteen rounds at a bull on Super Bowl Sunday. Not long after, I found myself in a full-blown foot pursuit of an escapee, my face, mostly pride battered from the struggle. My track...

My Weapon is a Melody

Every day can be a battle. A battle for our hearts, a battle for our minds, a battle to discourage, a battle to get out of bed, a battle to be content in whatever state we are in, a battle to bless God even in the darkest times. Satan seeks to crush and destroy us. When we are so focused on our own pain and battles, we are less useful. Think of a nice shiny car, but with a broken hose. This small hose can cause the entire car to be out of commission. This too is how Satan works in our life. He may sit back and watch us break with the smallest hose. That is all he needs to put us out of service. Many of us have been out of service for quite some time. This is because we have so focused on goals or things that may be outside our purpose. How do we fight battles in our life and overcome them? What should our only purpose be? Praise and worshiping God. That is it. God is constantly seeking out people who just want to worship Him. We constantly ask for blessings in our life, but how many ...

Hurricane Milton: The Anxiety Chronicles

October 8th is National Face Your Fears Day, and many Floridians are confronting that reality as Hurricane Milton approaches, less than 24 hours away. While the news is filled with alarming phrases like "explosive Category 5 hurricane," it only amplifies the anxiety of millions who already struggle with fear. Yet, in the midst of this, we must remember who is in control of the storm. "You rule over the surging sea; when its waves mount up, you still them." Psalm 89:9 "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you." Isaiah 43:2 "The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him." Nahum 1:7 The prophet Haggai had a word for the Israelites when they were focused on beautifying their homes and lives. They had the best decor, the latest tech, and endless feasts, but Haggai called them to take a hard look at their priorities  He said, “You’ve ...
