Salt Please

Nobody leaves a restaurant and raves about the salt. We sure do notice when its missing though. According to author Nancy Ortberg, it is interesting that Jesus refers to Christians as "salt" in the Bible. People do not "rave" about Christians, but who has not consulted a christian when life is in disarray. Every day that we walk into our offices, after school dance lessons, a store, or the doctors office, we leave a little piece of us. These are the "parts of earth" that we are to leave "our flavor" by sharing the love of God with others. Many people become discouraged thinking they have to fly to Nigeria and join a missions board to share God's love. Are you blind? You have an office full of co-workers on every corner of every street who are starving for the smallest amount of love. There are broken-hearted men and women in every cubicle. There are schools, full of kids, who have never felt loved by even one person. In the end, we may never see the difference we make in others. No one may rave about us. We may be shelved after every use. We may not be called to change the world, but we may just be called to add some flavor to it.

You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless. Matthew 5:13
