Temper Trap
Temper Trap is the name of an Austrailian alternative rock band but is also a description of what happens to many of us in our daily lives... We lose our temper... Many times this happens because we feel cornered, belittled, insecure, in pain, aggravated or what have you... but spewing out a verbal lashing for something miniscule is undeserving to those served...
Instead of screaming all the time... we need to learn to be still... and handle our own insecurities and not take it out on those around us...but...what if the person on the receiving end of our lost temper are not "innocent victims" but suspect.. in laying a trap for us to lose it... when you live with someone for so long... we learn which buttons to press..
Psalm 37:1-2 "Do not be agitated by evildoers...For they wither quickly like grass and wilt like tender green plants"... this is easy to quote..but in the moment when the teapot is boiling... the sound of screaming steam is hard to silence... Get off the burner!... walk away and be still....... Psalm 37:5 "commit your way to the Lord, trust in Him, and He will act".... not you.. let God follow you into the deepest pit of your heart... and quiet the quaking...
This will make your "righteousness shine like the dawn, your justice like the noonday" (Psalm 37:6) "Be silent before the Lord and wait expectantly for Him".
The words we say in the midst of a temper trap are impossible to erase from the mind(s) of the ones you love... thats why Psalm 37:8 says "REFRAIN FROM ANGER AND GIVE UP YOUR RAGE, DONT BE AGITATED, IT CAN ONLY BRING HARM".
The wicked have drawn the sword and strung the bow to bring down the afflicted and needy and to slaughter those whose way is upright (Psalm 37:14) Do we shatter those who get in our way, who challenge us, who cause our patience to be utilized with failure? In the movie Alice in Wonderland, one of the haunting questions lingers... "Is it better to be feared, or better to be loved"... Are you loved... or feared...Do not delight in destroying the afflicted hearts that challenge you in life...
What happens when we fail? Though he falls, he will not be overwelmed because the Lord holds his hand (Psalm 37:24)
Watch the blameless and observe the upright, for the man of peace will have a future but transgressors will all be eliminated; the future of the wicked will be destroyed (Psalm 37:37)
Dont fall in the trap of ignoring your temper... those affected will forever be bruised... put down your sword (tongue)... and allow the peace of God to quiet your storms...
